ABSTRACT
While there are several commonly used "no dig" systems for renovating deteriorated sewer mains,
the trenchless technology industry has not been able to offer the same range of convenient and cost effective
options for house service lines.
House service lines, or laterals, taking waste water from the house to the sewer main, have always presented
a dilemma for Water Utilities when it is considered renovations may be necessary. Their
small diameter, tight bends, short lengths and lack of conveniently available access has meant
rehabilitation solutions used for sewer mains are not appropriate.
Solutions adopted by Water Utilities have ranged from "do nothing", to chemical grouting, to digging
up and fully replacing. None of these is completely appropriate for structurally deteriorated lines in
densely populated areas.
An option that has recently become available is the Rib Loc Lateral Lining system. This system is
unique as it provides a strong structural liner for house service lines and is capable of installation
without excavation. Tight radius bends, including boundary traps, can be negotiated without
wrinkling or loss of cross sectional shape. It is a high stiffness liner designed to independently
support all applied loads.
The Rib Loc Lateral Liner will be offered in Australia by Interflow Pty Limited, the Australian
licensee for the Rob Loc rang of pipe renovation systems.
