We all know the biggest question this month WASN'T "Who will win the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards?"... the question on everyone's lips was "Who will win the WPR Study Tour to Sydney, Australia?"

Janette is a plumbing engineer with the LA office of Arup consulting engineers; she is also a member of ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers).

She is looking forward to visiting Sydney in late May to view some leading-edge projects and technologies, to extend her knowledge in the area of sustainable plumbing design.

ARE YOUR NAME, REPUTATION AND BUSINESS BEING STOLEN?

HAVE YOU LOOKED ON GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE TO SEE WHO GETS THE LEADS WHEN YOUR NAME IS ENTERED IN A SEARCH BOX?

Businesses can pay Google to use YOUR business name as Adwords, which direct enquirers looking for your business to another Company. IT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!!!!

A business can nominate a search keyword, and when a person puts that search keyword into the Google search engine, a sponsored advertisement for that business will pop up to the top or the right of the screen.

Certain businesses have realised that they can drive significant traffic to their websites by using their competitors' names, products and slogans as search keywords. Disputes have already arisen but the furthest they have gone here in Australia has been to the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) with the companies involved removing the keywords before any further action has been taken against them.

Paul Naylor, General Manager, Master Plumbers Association of NSW has taken this matter up with the NSW Office of Fair Trading and they have expressed the view that it is a misuse of the registered business name of other plumbers. The NSW Office of Fair Trading is investigating the matter further.
