Unless you have some way to get a prefab unit into the room and rotate it into place, a built up shower is the only option. If you do not know the correct way to "pour the base, tile the walls and put in a door", it is not a good idea to do it yourself. An improper installation will leak through the adjoining walls, and if on an upper level will also leak through the floor.

: I just bought a condo and am looking to replace the tub in the master bath with a stall shower. I can't help but think that building my own rather than putting in a pre-fab unit would look better, utilize the space better and hopefully not cost as much. Questions: Am I a fool? Can't I just pour my own base, tile it and two of the walls and put up tempered glass and a door? If so, where are the best places to get these raw materials? I'm in Dallas... any thoughts? Thanks.
