I know exactly what you're talking about, Jeff, and I know where the little guy is too. Right on the boiler sheet metal. And yes, it is humming. (THANKS!) I'm not sure that it's the sole culprit, but it certainly is contributing. You ever hear of anyone taking the entire control panel out and mounting it to a block wall? The old boiler's xformer was wall-mounted, and was quiet as a mouse.

: A lot of 24 volt transformers have a hum. This is the small electrical unit that tranforms 120 volts down to 24 for the control wiring. You could either have a completely separate transformer mounted to the boiler or one built into an operating control. This is a very hard thing to describe what it looks like without knowing the boiler.
