: I am doing what for me is a major plumbing job this weekend in the bathtub. I have the wall open and plan to replace the diverter, etc. I want to also replace the waste machanism because the open/close doesn't work properly. I was told I could get to it once I opened the wall. I can touch it but can barely see it - not alot of room to work. I can't access the wall through the other side either. What to do! Any tips on this job would be greatly appreciated.

: Thanks much!

Greg,
To replace a tub drain will require access either from the wall behind, or the floor below. Without this access, the tub may need to be removed. In rare cases, the tub drain can be reached through the wall on the valve and drain side. I wouldn't count on it though.
Good Luck,
Terry Love
: ps - I would have loved to have used a plumber, but the $1000 I was quoted is too rich for my blood.
