I am doing what for me is a major plumbing job this weekend in the bathtub. I have the wall open and plan to replace the diverter, etc. I want to also replace the waste machanism because the open/close doesn't work properly. I was told I could get to it once I opened the wall. I can touch it but can barely see it - not alot of room to work. I can't access the wall through the other side either. What to do! Any tips on this job would be greatly appreciated.

ps - I would have loved to have used a plumber, but the $1000 I was quoted is too rich for my blood.
