moen faucet repair

Posted by tn on January 10, 2000 at 13:18:57:

In the process of replacing the cartridge, I con't figure out how to remove the stop tube.
After removing the escutcheon plate, there a another white plastic plate that is labeled to be flush with the finished wall. I cannot remove this plate because the ceramic tile installation leaves a hole in the wall smaller than the plate (i.e. the plate is not exactly flush with the wall and is set back so its front can be tight to the rear of the tiles).
I tired pullin the stop tube straight out, and tried to unscrew it, but it didn't budge. Is there a trick to getting the tube and the white plate out?
I don't see any other way to get to the retainer clip.

thanks for any help
