: : How do you remove an old cast iron tub? It looks like a two piece tub, has no screws to the wall and does not break with a sledgehammer so far.
: : Do we need to replace old lead flanges for the toilets, or is there a way to retrofit them.

: You are not using a big enough hammer on the tub. It WILL break up, but you need a sledge hammer.
: Cut the old lead bend out, leave about 3-4 inches where it joins the cast iron soil stack. Place a plastic or brass flange on the floor, fasten it with screws and take off with plastic from the bottom. Attach the plastic pipe to the old lead using CT's (also called Ferncos {after the company} or no-hub connectors)

: Hope this helps....

Are you sure that is a cast iron tub. It sounds like a pressed steel tub. They are much thinner than a cast iron tub but they wont break. The coating will break but the tub wont.I have cut them with a sawzall with the right blades but even that is tough and blades wont last long because of the porcelin coating.Be careful with the flying porcelin chips and extremely sharp edges!
