Posted by Terry Traut on November 29, 1999 at 03:06:27: I have a two-year-old gas hot water heater with a power venting system. About four months ago, we ran out of hot water and called the plumber who told us that the power vent had tripped. Over the past couple of months with increasingly regularity, the hot water heater doesn't heat when it's supposed to. I will disconnect and reconnect a few wires in the venting system (I've come to find out about pressure switches, thermostats, etc.) and eventually the burner will kick in again. There is no rhyme or reason to when it comes on. Sometimes (like this morning) it works fine and reheats when it's supposed to. Sometimes it doesn't. What are the possible problems and what can I check? (and what do I need to make sure the plumber checks?)
