Some furnaces have electronic devices to light the main burner, they do not use a standing pilot like Terry apparently has.
I don't know what kind of furnace you have.
If you have a standing pilot, read the directions on the furnace, and light it. Then don't forget to turn the gas valve from the Pilot position to the ON position.
