You need to melt the lead out of the joint to remove the adapter. You do not have to clean out the bell, because you will have to lead a piece of 3" cast-iron pipe into it before you can connect the PVC. This is a job for a plumber since you do not have the lead melting tools, the "running rope", nor the experience to make a horizontal lead joint.

I am installing a bath in my basement and all I have to work for my toilet drain is a 3" tee with a 3" to 2" adapter off the direction I need to attach. I believe I need to cut the 2" pipe, remove the adapter and connect the new 3" PVC pipe to the belled end of the 3" tee.
: I don't know how to get out the adapter, clean out the bell, or attach the PVC. Any ideas?
