Posted by Suzanne Kelley on September 29, 1999 at 12:17:47: I'm buying an old house. The inspector said the boiler was fine. The plumber came today to service it and said: (1) The boiler needs to be replaced, (2) It could last another year, and (3) I could just replace the firebox. He said the box was bowed and rusted. The owner is up in arms because he said he has had it serviced 3-4 times in the past two years and no one ever said it needed to be replaced. I think he should pay for it because he's a contractor. He wants to have his friend, a plumber, reinspect it and tell him what it needs. I'm by myself and already the realtor and the owner have been pressuring me to close soon. How long would a new liner last? Is that usually a good idea? The water is not on but the inspector said he didn't see any leaks. Should that have been obvious in Aug. where the heat was not on? He did turn it on to check if was operating. I am so upset and don't know where to turn. I'm in a new town and everybody knows each other. Thanks for any advice.
