Always attached, though. Well, it broke off. Now I want to replace it. Is it just screwed into the tub drain hole, or is it cemented to something down below that I'll snap if I unscrew it? And what tool do I use to back it out? When I get a new one, how can I torque it down, since the new stopper will be installed? Thanks in advance for any help or advice - Mike, It sounds like you have a "tip toe" drain. The stopper just unscrews out of the bath shoe insert. It is easy to replace the cartridge just take out the insert and take it to your local plumbing supply. If you can't find go to my web site and call or e-mail me I stock the stoppers and could ship one out. Good luck,
