I MUST REPLACE ASAP. Is copper the best way to go? Do I need only to replace hot water piping (no leaks in cold water pipes yet)? Where can I find a good resource to tell me EXACTLY how to run lines, make connections, fittings to use (galvanized to copper). Do I need to replace every pipe under the house w/copper? If so, I think walls must be torn out. : I am an excellent auto and machine tool mechanic, but have zero plumbing experience. AM WILLING TO LEARN AND NEED HELP - - SOON. DO IT ONCE..AND DO IT RIGHT!! REPLACE ALL THE GALV. LINES AT ONE TIME. IT SOUNDS AS IF YOU ARE OVER YOUR HEAD WITH THIS ONE. YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF GETTING LOTS OF ESTIMATES AND LOCKING IN TO A GOOD PRICE. THERE ARE WAYS TO REPLACE THE OLD LINES WITHOUT TEARING OUT THE WALLS. TALK TO EACH PLUMBER THAT YOU GET ESTIMATES FROM. IF YOU HAVE GOOD CITY WATER I WOULD SUGGEST COPPER TUBE ( TYPE L ) AND IF YOU HAVE BAD WATER USE CPVC PIPE AND FITTINGS.
