Polybutal piping

I would like to know of any concerns or problems occurring with polybutal piping.
I am looking at buying a house with this type of plumbing. The house was built in 1996, supposedly after the class action suit that was filed. The piping is connected with clamps not snapped together. I would appreciate your prompt response. Thanks J Hand. jthand@juno.com |

You're right about there being a massive lawsuit in the USA to do with polybutal pipe. It is more to do with the fittings failing. I'd be concerned if I were you. The product is relatively new in Australia and I for one am avoiding it because of all the lawsuits over there.

I have worked with a company that handles polybutal piping systems in Australia and have found the the big problem in the U.S is that the fittings are not made of polybutal and are breaking down causing failure.
The system in Australia uses fittings that are made of the same polybutal material as the pipe that is as far as I am aware overcomming the problem with failures with the fittings. The quality of the installer is also another issue with the installation of polybutal and all installers should do a course to fully understand the uses and limitations of the product Good Luck Michael Carew vipplumb@ocean.com.au |

I was wandering what information you found out about polybutelene piping. I too am about to buy a house and I just found out through a neighbor that the house has PB piping. Check the Connections if it has large screw on ends it is ok if it has a metal clamp give it a little tug and it will break. you cant miss it its's gray in color and flexible Plumbers like it becaus they can run it verry easy but i say it is junk! Ray Croft1@dtccom.net |

I got a rpint out from my plumber today that gives the name of the Supplier, which is Vanguard. Then it says that you need to call Crawford Co. at 1-800-356-3496
